Appearance

Face Claim: Lara Croft

Hair: Auburn at birth; dyed dark brown after killing her uncle for murdering her parents

Height: 5'10"

Dressing Style: Due to her occupation of being a rogue archer, she is not fashion-forward, but she doesn't hide her curves, either. On a typical hunting day, her wardrobe consists of form-fitting tank tops, cargo pants or shorts, and combat boots. Laela rarely lets her hair down; she prefers it pulled back into a long ponytail that falls to the middle of her back. She has bangs that sweep from the middle of her forehead down each side of her face.

Personality

Likes: Archery; perfection; strength

Dislikes: Weakness; lack of intelligence and common sense; the Council

Strengths: Archery; knifework; intelligence; gunmanship; the love of her grandmother

Weaknesses: Arrogance/egotistical; overconfidence; bluntness; judgmental; loner; pride; recklessness; perfectionist

Habits/Mannerisms:

Laela is extremely quiet and doesn`t speak much. When she does, she usually responds sarcastically. She`s very careful of what she does when she meets people, and she doesn`t trust easily. Although not a conversationalist, Laela is proud of her skills and will brag, oftentimes seeming cocky and arrogant - which she also proudly admits to being.

Spending so much time outdoors on her own has taught her to be self-reliant and she expects nothing from everyone. She believes that the only way something will be done her way - right way - is if it`s done by herself. There were times she camped with a fellow rogue, but she never asked for assistance in making fires, killing animals for food, or for defending the campsite from predators.

Laela comes off as arrogant and bold, often mocking others and showing off. On the rare occasion she is scolded, she scoffs and pretends like it doesn`t bother her; though she refuses to admit it, being criticized troubles her.

Her worst fear is of death itself, and to hide it, she puts on a poker face in front of others and is the first to jump into a life-threatening situation. Although disliked by many, people see and respect her fearlessness.

History

Target practice was over, much to Mark`s relief. His heart beat erratically in his chest as his new wife`s face floated in his mind, his lips twisting up into a smile as he jogged up to his mother`s spare cottage, where he now lived. Light beamed onto the wood floor as he opened the door, cautiously stepping inside and shutting it behind him. Mark dropped his bow and arrows on the ground, looking up to see Rose - his wife - running towards him and leaping into his arms, which had outstretched automatically. He showered Rose with kisses all over her face, and she giggled and nuzzled her head into his shoulder with a broad grin.

"How are my girls?" Mark asked, placing a last kiss on his wife`s neck before looking into her hazel eyes.

"We`re wonderful, but we missed you." As if on queue, baby Laela began to cry from her room, and Rose took Mark by the hand and pulled him with her towards their daughter`s crying. "I told you, didn`t I?" Rose`s hand slipped from Mark`s and she scooped her baby from the crib, Laela`s tiny fingers curling with a grabbing motion towards Mark. With an even bigger smile than before, Mark took his daughter in his arms and cradled her while pressing his lips to her forehead. Immediately, the baby`s cries ceased, and she smiled contently, her eyes fluttering before closing as she fell asleep.

Rose and Mark were silent as they both watched their child sleep, and he carefully placed her back into her crib. Seizing Rose`s hand, he gave it a light squeeze as the smile fell from his face. Rose turned her eyes to her husband, a look of concern crossing her face. She said nothing, knowing he was about to say something.

"We need to leave."

"Leave? Why?" Her grip on his hand slackened and her eyes widened in surprise. Mark brought her hand up to his heart.

"My brother... He threatened to tell the council about us; about Laela. As long as we stay here we won`t be safe."

"John? Why would John threaten us? You`re his brother and he always seemed to like me." Rose pulled herself away from her husband, disbelief in her expression. For the first time since she met Mark, she didn`t believe him. John was on their side, after all. He`d expressed great dislike for the Council`s rules about interracial relationships with humans.

Mark sighed. "I... I don`t know. He was okay until Laela was born, then he just sort of... changed. And before practice today he told me if we stay here, he will report us."

Rose went silent for a moment. "Mark... I think you`re being ridiculous..."

"No. I`m not. Something is up with John and I don`t like it. He inherited our mother`s magic and is more powerful than I ever will be. No weapon can stop him." Mark closed his eyes.

"And you`re the best archer around... Surely--"

"Rose," Mark cut his wife off mid-sentence. "We`re talking about magic here. He`s as advanced in magic as I am with a bow and arrow. And magic beats arrows. Every time. I`ve seen good friends of mine fall before mages and priests who moved nothing but their wrist and hand. And it`s not just him I`m worried about. It`s the Council too. I can`t fight them off without being executed on the spot before I get a chance."

Rose wrapped her arms around herself in defeat. "What about Eileyah? What has she said about this?"

"Mother... doesn`t know. And I want to keep it that way. I don`t want to worry her but if she knows anything and lies - and she will - she will be killed. She`s not only my mother, but a healer. The only one to have cured things no one else was able to. And she`s already very old, whether she looks it or not. Her time will end soon and I`d rather that be later than sooner."

"So... What now?" Rose bit her lip and looked at her sleeping child with a feeling of dread in her stomach, still unable to fathom what Mark was saying of her brother-in-law.

"We pack up and leave. And if we`re too late and the Council comes by... I want you to take Laela and run."

"But what about--"

"Rose please... Laela needs her mother. Just take her and run if something happens. Don`t stop. Don`t come back for me. If I make it out, I`ll come find you, but do not, under any circumstance, come back for me. Promise me that." Mark turned towards his wife with sad eyes.

She entwined their fingers and softly kissed him. "I promise... Take Laela and run...
